We want to provide a prayerful, reverent, and festive celebration with high quality music for everyone attending your ceremony. Likewise, your wedding guests are invited into full and active participation in this holy celebration. Because of this, we have a few guidelines:
Music:
- Wedding music is sacred and liturgical. Secular and popular music, however meaningful, is not appropriate for use in the Sacred Liturgy and may be reserved for another time during the wedding day.
- Music in the planning form is approved. These selections of sacred and instrumental music have been carefully selected to help make this process quick and painless. Additional requests should be discussed with the Director of Music.
- Wedding music is performed live. Recorded music may be used outside of the church.
Musicians:
- The Cathedral will schedule an organist (usually the Director of Music) and a professional cantor. Musicians with experience performing in the Cathedral ensure quality music for your wedding.
- Other professional musicians may be hired at the discretion of the Director of Music. There are several approved musicians for hire including trumpet, violin, string quartet, or vocal quartet. We will assist in hiring these musicians whose fees vary and are listed in the planning form.
- Guest musicians may be allowed to participate with the approval of the Director of Music. To make a request, couples should submit a brief recording of the musician. Guest musicians may participate along with the professional cantor and organist at specified parts of the liturgy.
- Please note: During Covid-19 Reopening, all musicians are included in the total number of attendees in the church building.
Fees:
- Fees for the organist and professional cantor are included in your payment to the Cathedral parish.
- For additional musicians, payment (either check or cash) must be brought to the rehearsal and given to the Cathedral Wedding Coordinator. Checks are written personally to each musician, whose names the Director of Music will provide.
- Couples are responsible for providing compensation to any guest musicians they invite.
